WebIIRC, you have to specifically change the max distance on Live (which is usually a one-time change) -- on the PTR if you've not manually set it to 2.6 (I think current max?) then it's 1.8 or whatever the default is. Environment Detail only controls how far you can see objects and buildings, not the terrain.
